ABOUT ME
Lindsey McAlister, OBE, JP
(UK/HK)
Originally hailing from the UK, I
have called Hong Kong my home and creative haven for nearly four decades. As the founder of the ‘Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation,’ I have been an influential figure in the arts scene in Hong Kong for over 30 years. My work spans the performing arts, writing, directing, and producing, fostering
artistic expression and innovation in the community.
Artist Statement
I am a painter and mixed media
artist, working both digitally and with original artworks. My creative process is intuitive and non-linear, allowing ideas and aesthetics to blossom organically through playful exploration. Each choice I make invites the next in a harmonious dialogue of visual themes.
I interweave a variety of materials
such as acrylic paint, printed and decorative papers, pencil, charcoal, and photographic transfers without a predetermined goal. Guided by chance and curiosity, I let colours, textures, and compositions naturally unfold.
Through my art, I seek to capture
fleeting moments of perception, emotion, and imagination, crafting them into lyrical visual languages. By embracing unknown pathways, I uncover my most profound artistic insights and strive to create shared moments of understanding, empathy, and introspection for my audience.
In recognition of my contribution
to the arts, I was honoured with an MBE in 1997 for my work in youth arts. In 2006, I was elevated to the rank of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for my dedication to promoting UK arts overseas.
