ABOUT ME
Lindsey McAlister, OBE, JP
(UK/HK)
Originally hailing from the UK, I
have called Hong Kong my home and creative haven for nearly four decades. As the founder of the ‘Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation,’ I have been an influential figure in the arts scene in Hong Kong for over 30 years. My work spans the performing arts, writing, directing, and producing, fostering
artistic expression and innovation in the community.
Artist Statement
As an intuitive artist, I delve into the vibrant realm of abstract expression, allowing colours and forms to emerge organically from my subconscious. My creative process is a non-linear journey of self-discovery, guided by raw emotions and a commitment to honest expression. I use a blend of materials—acrylic paint, printed an decorative papers, charcoal, and photographic transfers—inviting spontaneity and curiosity to unfold in a harmonious dialogue of visual themes.
Each artwork is an invitation for viewers to engage intuitively, fostering unique connections through bold strokes and dynamic compositions. My aim is to celebrate the growing appreciation for abstraction and personal expression, capturing fleeting moments of perception and emotion. By embracing the unknown pathways of creativity, I seek to cultivate shared experiences of understanding, empathy, and introspection.
In recognition of my contribution
to the arts, I was honoured with an MBE in 1997 for my work in youth arts. In 2006, I was elevated to the rank of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for my dedication to promoting UK arts overseas.
