At first glance, the collage presents a serene image of calmness and stillness. A Buddha's face takes center stage, depicted in various shades of pastel shades. His eyes are closed gently as if in meditation. Upon closer inspection, scenes of a more tumultuous inner landscape are revealed behind the Buddha's placid visage. Fragmented pieces of decorative paper and the pages from books showcase a mind in motion.
This collision of serenity and turmoil, stillness and movement, is reminiscent of the Buddhist concept of awakening - the ongoing process of gaining insight into the true nature of reality and taming the uncontrolled mind. The collage captures both the exterior facade of composure, as well as the deeper work of training the mind that lies beneath the visible surface.
It is varnished to protect it from dust and UV-light, comes unframed, signed on the back.
