Between Impulse & Stillness

Bright orange cuts through layers of lilac and magenta, while looping black marks and pale washes break up the colour. Long drips run down the surface, crossing over broad brushstrokes and partly covering what lies beneath.

The painting brings together two different rhythms: the quick movement of a painted gesture and the slower passage of a drip. Like a curtain falling across a stage, the vertical lines soften the activity behind them without quite bringing it to a stop.
